I told Oliver last night that we basically have two weeks to find a location for the ceremony and book the Crepe Place for the reception.
I would really love to get married out in the forest somewhere. The requirements are: beautiful and cheap. I think we can accomplish that. So far the Santa Cruz Parks website has been no help at all and the fancier "Here Comes the Guide" website sorta scares the bejesus out of me - it's the kinda of site where everything that is listed is followed by multiple zeros.
Overall Wedding Goal: stylish, cheap and uncompromised My mother is in my ear about an engagement announcement - in which I will be referred to as "Evelyn" which is my legal name, but I never introduce myself as "Evelyn" and 99% of the time people mispronounce it anyway. I think I might be able to state my case to her. The announcement is going to be accompanied by a photo of Ollie and me. Well, we had planned on our friend / my other derby wife Kelly doing the photo last week . . . and then I tore my ACL. So needless to say I'm trying to think of some creative ideas that involve me sitting. Mom I'll get it done I swear!
The wheels are starting to turn and our wedding is beginning to take form. It's nice to see that Oliver is just as excited as I am about the plans. I think having the team dynamic in the planning process will eliminate the "bridezilla" effect - although I'm hardly a diva, I could see myself getting stressed out with all the little details.
Speaking of which! Why is it my parents think I have no idea what I'm doing? I keep explaining to them do not expect conventional. The questions I'm getting from both of them are borderline hilarious: "Do you know you need to register?" "Are you doing a buffet or service?" "What exact shade of blue are thinking?"
I understand they are trying to be helpful but it is sorta funny . . . considering the circumstances. I'm almost 29 years old, work in PR and have helped planned many derby events. I have stated over and over again that Oliver and I do not want a traditional wedding - with that comes the traditional wedding details . . . I know they mean well.
I guess this is the first few steps in the right direction - I'm excited to see how everything pans out.
xoxo
